Project Runway went sweeter and stickier this season with its unconventional challenge. After a season premiere that left almost everyone with the yearning of seeing Ven as the winner and Lantie as the "Auf'd", we can now rejoice that finally there were fair decisions (at last!).
Let's see what happened this week on Project Obnoxious, sorry, Project Runway.
All the designers chit chat about Beatrice going home instead of Lantie and how everyone is eager to win the competition. But that's a really boring story so I'll skip to the part when Heidi said: "It's a very sweet challenge." Isn't that sweet?
After hearing the word "sweet", we all knew that the unconventional challenge was knocking at their door. If some of the designers couldn't make that up; sorry, but it seems they lack of imagination.
We're at Dylan's Candy Bar store where Tim announces that they must create an outfit out of Dylan's Candy Bar products with a budget of $250, but Dylan, owner of the store, gave the designers a 50% off the product. Either she wanted to be supportive, or she wanted the designers to take the most candies possible before the sell-by-date expired (kidding).
Construction for their sweet outfits began and all the designers were anxious to start working to impress the judges, even Lantie that was on the bottom 2 showed a little bit of excitement to work with the most unconventional and impossible candy ever... an umbrella.
Some tension between Gunnar and Christopher continued on the workroom, let's be honest, they love each other but they're too proud that they can't admit it (LOL). Andrea struggled with her design after Tim's critique and decided to start all over again, which she couldn't, so she decided to stay with her original concept.
After 35 minutes of watching the construction process, some of the designers feel insecure about their designs, while others are confident and feel they can get to the top with their design. Let's see how it all turned out...
Alicia IN - She had a great idea, but for me, it turned out a mess. I don't really get what's going on with the bra. At least she could have finished the bottom, and the hairstyle was too Flintstones-like.
Andrea IN - After Tim's critique, she wanted to start all over again. I don't get the idea of making a "fashionable" apron. The only thing I like is the number 1 in orange.
Buffi Bottom 2 - This was all over the place. I'm really impressed with the sour candy weaving, that was really cool. If only she had a skirt out of something else.
Christopher IN - It was a cool idea, but proportions are bad. It looks very stiff. Gunnar is not happy with this look.
Dmitry IN - Yes, we all praise Dmitry for doing something with movement. But my opinion of why he was not in the top 3, it's because he left too much black fabric uncovered.
Elena Bottom 3 - Elena's idea was really interesting. Maybe if she would have done it in another color and with a shorter length in the shoulders to make the model look more feminine.
Fabio IN - I really like the color, the shape and the styling of Fabio's design. It was really well made.
Gunnar Top 3 - I really like the checkered pattern. Makin it a peplum killed it, in a bad way. It had nothing to do with the pattern and the silhouette would have looked better without it. It was creative to make accessories out of candy.
Kooan - I like his personality, but I can't still get his design ideas. Looks like a poorly made piñata.
Lantie OUT! - Blah blah. As her design was walking down the runway, we all knew she was out from Project Runway. She already had a big red mark from last week's challenge.
Melissa IN - It was really smart to make separate pieces. Who knew that black colored licorice would look as real leather?
Nathan IN - I think this is simple, but cute at the same time. Would you like to put on a skirt that weighs 20 pounds?
Raul IN - The sour candy look like actual fabric. The color is great and the styling was cool, too. Another smart one who made separate pieces.
Sonjia Top 3 - This one looks so tempting. I'd like a bite of this. The color choices were fantastic. It looks like something a chic mermaid would use.
Ven WINNER! - So Ven finally won the challenge. I really like his design, but I wish it was in stronger colors. Honestly, my winner was Sonjia. I think she was the designer with more mixed candies and it was really creative. This was, for me, a little flat. But the judges decision is final.
Don't miss Project Runway next Thursday at 9/8c on Lifetime! The designers will be working in teams of two, creating outfit for very special clients: Season 9 winner, Anya Ayoung-Chee, Season 6 winner, Irina Shabayeva and Season 5 and All Stars contestant, Kenley Collins!
